Rosenior: “I don’t have No.1s and No.2s" – Chelsea manager’s press conference ahead of Brentford game
Chelsea host
Brentford at Stamford Bridge in what will be Liam Rosenior’s first league game
in charge of the Blues. Here’s what the Briton had to say in his press
conference.
Liam Delap’s
illness
Rosenior spoke
about Liam Delap’s illness, stating: "He's still at home at the moment
recovering, as is Jamie Gittens.
“The club
doctors are looking to contain a virus because some of our staff have gone down
as well.”
Reece James
and Cole Palmer
"Both of
them are training today. We just need to assess them and come through the
protocols they need to come through. At the moment, they could be [in the squad
vs Brentford]."
The current
Goalkeeper situation
"It's the
same for every position. I'm here to assess every position. I don't have No.1s
and No.2s, that's not how I work. You have to earn your spot in this team. That
is the message to all of the players. They have to earn their place in the
team."
Rosenior also
touched on Robert Sanchez playing differently against Arsenal, stating: "Every
manager has a different idea; there are different triggers and patterns I'm
asking Rob to do, and the whole team.
“It's never
going to be perfect. The right time, that will come. Rob has had an outstanding
season, Filip showed promise against Charlton."
Facundo
Buonanotte going to Leeds
"In terms
of the games and the minutes he wants, it's not quite what he wants. I'm in
constant communication with the sporting directors about transfers."
His
relationship with the fans
"It's
two-way. For them to sing my name, they need to enjoy what they see on the
pitch and most important, see us get results.
“Hopefully I
can develop a really good relationship with them, not from what I say here but
from what they see on the pitch."
Update on
Romeo Lavia
Rosenior
delivered a much-awaited update on midfielder Romeo Lavia: "Romeo is on
the pitch, not with the group. His rehab is looking really good. The most
important thing is to not push him too hard, so when he is back, he is back for
good.
“I can't wait
to have him back. No timeframe [though]."
Chelsea’s
home form
"I think
the past is the past, I said that to the players. I can only affect the now. If
I affect the now, I affect the future.
“I want us to
play with high tempo, so the opposition know it is difficult to come and play
at Stamford Bridge. The most important thing is that we do the basics really
well."
